It's hard to imagine anyone doing it again.

Where people go after a bad take or a loss. "He's in the mud" means someone's having a terrible time, either a player struggling or a fan whose predictions went wrong. "Clear of the mud" means things have improved. Football Twitter uses it constantly to celebrate rivals' misfortune or mock people who were confidently wrong.

The Championship (English 2nd tier) Playoff Final is often referred to as ‘the richest game in football’. It is a one-off game at Wembley Stadium between the two semi-final winners, to see who gets the final promotion spot to the following seasons Premier League. The top two teams are automatically promoted, with the following four teams facing each other in two-legged home and away semi-finals, and the winners playing off at Wembley in the final.

Player A passes to B, who lays off to C, who passes to A running beyond - it's a quick combination that uses the third man to unlock space. The timing and execution have to be sharp. When it works, it cuts through defenses that are set up to deal with direct passes.

A three-player move. The first player passes to the second, and the third times a run to receive the lay-off in space. Defenders watch the ball and the immediate receiver, so the third player sneaks away unnoticed. Getting the timing right takes practice and understanding between players. It's a sign of a well-drilled attacking unit when you see it happen smoothly.
