Box Crasher

1

A midfielder who arrives late into the penalty area to score. Not the same as a shadow striker who plays behind the forward - the box crasher starts deeper in midfield and times runs to arrive in the box just as the ball comes in, taking defenders by surprise. Lampard was the best at it, and Scholes was great too, but Gündoğan, Bellingham, and Rice all do it now. It's an underrated skill to time your runs into the box and score a goal.

Frank Lampard built his career on box crashing. He scored 177 Premier League goals from midfield, many of which came from perfectly timing his runs to arrive late and unmarked in the box to smash a ball home or to take advantage of cut backs.
